In the latter part of 2023, I had the pleasure of meeting Pamela King, a jewelry designer whose collection Saint-Désir is centered around female empowerment. Her work captivated me and decided to share it on my Instagram account. However, I now feel it’s important to introduce the founder behind the brand. Here’s more about Pamela King.
Petrona: Tell us about yourself…
Pamela: I am a creative individual who has always felt a strong connection with artistic expression. I have traveled across the globe as a singer-songwriter, performing in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. In addition to my music career, I work as a project manager for creative projects and write grants.
Petrona: How did you come up with the idea of Saint-Désir?
Pamela: I have always had a desire to become an entrepreneur, but I was never sure what kind of business to pursue. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I found my passion for jewelry-making. I drew my first affirmation ring and felt an immediate connection. Jewelry is a way to express ourselves, and I love how it allows us to be creative and authentic. That’s why I decided to start my own business called Saint-Désir, which was born out of my love for creativity and self-expression.
Petrona: Tell me more about the brand…
Pamela: Saint-Désir specializes in curating and designing affordable, tarnish-resistant, and water-resistant 14K and 18K gold-plated jewelry for black women aged 20 to 30. Each piece is unique, creative, fun, and expressive, fulfilling the need for individuality and creativity. The brand’s mission is to highlight talented black women creatives while encouraging self-expression with jewelry. When purchasing from Saint-Désir, you become part of a sisterhood, a community of creative and talented black women.
3) What are the accent pieces of your collection?
I have a few key pieces, and because my brand revolves around the idea of creative freedom, I allow my customers to make their own jewelry sets. Here’s one of my favorite combinations:

Pamela: The journey of entrepreneurship is a personal development journey, where the process of becoming is the real reward. It’s important to remember that it’s okay not to be perfect from the very beginning. What matters is how you persistently show up every day.
