Celebrating Montreal Businesses, Entrepreneurs and Influencers: Franky Selector

While businesses are severely impacted by Montreal’s wavering lockdown, local artists who travel throughout Canada and abroad are also feeling the brunt end of the lack of being able to perform. Despite the restrictions, Franky Selector has a new album, ‘Never Better’ coming out on all platforms and also on vinyl on October 16th on The Good People Records label.

Here’s Franky’s story.

Petrona: What is your official title?

Franky: Music Producer, Singer-Songwriter

Petrona: What is your greatest passion? Did that fuel you to get started?

Franky: The Magic of Music and it sure fueled me to get started!

Petrona: What is the message you wish to convey to the world? In other words, how do you want to be remembered?

Franky: The message is a positive one; I’m trying to spread good vibes through my music and my writings where I can move people and bring a touch of sunshine on a rainy day. We always have a choice on which side of the street we want to shuffle our feet and I choose the sunny side!

Petrona: Describe your business, service, or mission.

Franky: I compose original music for film and television; produce albums and singles for various artists and performers and write my own music for my personal project.

My recording studio, Shabby Chic Studio, is located in the heart of Old Montreal and offers a warm and relaxed vibe in a charming part of our fair city as opposed to the colder atmosphere of more corporate studios.

I also work as a music supervisor and curator for various film, television productions, and events

Petrona: What is your biggest quirk?

Franky: Pizza for breakfast

Petrona: What has been your biggest challenge in business?

Franky: Obviously, the biggest challenge right now is the pandemic where we as performers were used to tour and play live regularly. With the lockdown, the studio activities have also slowed down quite a bit. We have to constantly think of new ways to spread our art through streaming, remote producing, etc.

Petrona: What’s next for your business or for you?

Franky: My new album ‘Never Better’ is coming out on all platforms and also on vinyl on October 16th on TheGoodPeopleRecords label. We had planned a launch party at Rosewoods in Old Montreal to celebrate with friends and family and perform a few songs but due to the situation, we are now concentrating on the media and such.

The shows in France and Italy have also been postponed to 2021 but I still plan on traveling to Italy later on this fall to finish a song I wrote with Dario Sansone, the lead singer of Neapolitan band Foja, and do a small promo tour over there where an Italian version of my album ‘Never Better’ will be released. I also plan on catching a sunrise in Sicily and a sunset in Venice.

Petrona: What advice would give to someone reading this?

Franky: There are no shortcuts; hard work pays off but make sure you whistle along the way!
