Celebrating Montreal Businesses, Entrepreneurs and Influencers: Charlotte Flannery

This article brought me so much light and positive energy. In fact, I can see the aura surrounding the subjects of my articles, and in this case, Charlotte’s light shines bright, because she is in full alignment with her mission.

Here’s Charlotte’s story.

Petrona: What is your official title?

Charlotte: Montreal Makeup and Hair Artist,  founder of autism charity Ray Of Light Canada, creator of Ariana’s Sparkle – a cosmetics collection benefiting Autism Speaks Canada

Petrona: What is your greatest passion? Did that fuel you to get started?

Charlotte: My greatest passion artistically since the age of 12 has always been makeup and fashion. It has definitely led me to where I am today and continues to fuel me today. But now I have another passion too, my husband and kids.

Petrona: What is the message you wish to convey to the world? In other words, how do you want to be remembered?

Charlotte: I would love to be remembered in my career for having strength and skill in my craft. For having artistic vision featuring inclusion and diversity since day one (which is now 15 years ago) For being attentive, approachable, and relatable. For living and working my passion!

Petrona: Describe your business, service, or mission.

Charlotte: For my business, I work as a freelance makeup and hair artist in the fashion industry as well as in the wedding industry. I also have the opportunity to work with many private clients for events. I am so grateful to all who have and continue to believe in me for over a decade. I’ve had a lot of support to be able to do this job that I am so passionate about. For my charity work, I simply hope to make an impact on the autism community, in any way that I can. Mainly through means of raising awareness and by raising support through fundraising projects and giving guidance to other families like mine.

Petrona: What is your biggest quirk?

Charlotte: Absolutely my biggest quirk is that I snort when I laugh. I even snorted during my wedding ceremony as my husband read me his vows (he said something funny, I think about pizza) My daughter snorts when she laughs too, it’s pretty adorable

Petrona: What has been your biggest challenge in business?

Charlotte: My biggest challenge since the very beginning has always been struggling to find a work/life balance. I have definitely been making some improvements lately but it hasn’t been easy. It’s also a process that never ends, it always requires maintenance

Petrona: What’s next for your business or for you?

Charlotte: 2020 was supposed to be an exciting year with the opportunity to travel abroad for a couple of work contracts. But alas, 2020 wasn’t the year for that after all. Perhaps the opportunity will present itself again. I will be ready and waiting…

Petrona: What advice would give to someone reading this?

Charlotte: One of my best pieces of advice to give any entrepreneur is quite relevant to all businesses, not only the beauty business. It is to know that an opportunity doesn’t always need to be a paid one to bring a lot of value to you. This was a lesson that I learned through years of experience, as contacts I’ve made through opportunities where I had donated my time are still in my life today, and have led to amazing clients.

Petrona: What is your favorite quote.

When you make new friends don’t forget the old, for one is silver and the other gold – Constance Patience
