Celebrating Montreal Businesses, Entrepreneurs and Influencers: Felipe del Pozo

The Public Relations industry in Montreal is riddled with discrimination in its’ Blogger and Influence Marketer relationships. A large number of publicists shy away from diversity or have been mandated not to have a large number of POCs at events. While we hope there is some change in this sphere, Felipe del Pozo champions diversity in every way. As a publicist for 30 years, his clients not only embrace his out of the box way of thinking, but he also well-loved within Blogger and Influence Marketer Community. Why is this?

Here’s Felipe’s story.

Petrona: What is your official title?

Felipe: Publicist, Press Agent, Event Producer.

Petrona: What is your greatest passion? Did that fuel you to get started?

Felipe: Helping others and listening. To allow an artist to make their dreams come true is my greatest passion. From an early age, my parents taught me the importance of solidarity and mutual aid. I apply these values to my work.

Petrona: What is the message you wish to convey to the world? In other words, how do you want to be remembered?

Felipe: My father, a great historian, gave me “Le siècle rebelle. Dictionnaire de la contestation au XXe siècle.” This book is an inexhaustible source of motivation. It shows the importance of actions, that “doing something” is also wanting to push back the limits of what is possible. In this way, I would like to be remembered as someone real, as an authentic individual, with real values. This morning a friend told me that my smile doesn’t lie. That, for me, is one of the best compliments you can give me. I fight against everything that is fake.

Petrona: Describe your business, service, or mission.

Felipe: Felipe RP is a Communication Agency specializing in Public Relations and Press Relations. I compare it to a boutique hotel. I offer personalized service. I support my clients from the start to the end of their projects. I invest myself thoroughly. I leave nothing to chance. I advise and recommend. I apply my 30 years of experience in each of my mandates. I like to develop an idea and carry it to the end, to see it grow. I know my role, I stay behind, so that my client is always in the spotlight.

Petrona: What is your biggest quirk?

Felipe: To some, my look and attitude may seem weird. I know I don’t look like traditional PR. I don’t wear a suit or tie – I can’t even tie a knot! I have more than 50 tattoos, they tell my life, they are my diary, and pay tribute to my little girl, Alexina, and to my family. I’m not doing this to follow the fashion, but because it’s “me.” I dress in black and leather. My biggest quirk is not being like other people or being where I should be. I follow my own path and I do what I want.

Petrona: What has been your biggest challenge in business?

Felipe: Since the start of the pandemic, my biggest challenge has been to maintain hope and give confidence to those with whom I work. More than ever with Covid-19, the work of a PR is to offer a constant presence, a global vision of the situation, with frankness. I have had canceled events and productions, delayed mandates, weeks without work as well, but I have not given up, and I have had with clients who have been able to adapt to the current situation, who understood the urgency in which we live, and who offered their creations in a healthy and safe environment.

Petrona: What’s next for your business or for you?

Felipe: I have to keep my mind awake, open, and above all, aware of everything around me. I have confidence in the future, in the youth. Today, at my age, I am one of those who encourage the youngest and show them the way with humility. This is why I am happy to start a collaboration with Frede Rioux. She is a young entrepreneur who works with brands, audiences, influencers, and who has her own podcast. I also continue to work with Nkosi Phanord, another young person, who inspires me with his talent and his ardor. He’s a director with a vision.

Petrona: What advice would you give to someone reading this?

Felipe: I always advise never to give up on your dreams, but to keep your feet on the ground. You have to know how to be a dreamer and a realist at the same time to be successful. If you know your role and don’t take yourself for someone else, you’ll be fine. Having ambition is good, but being a good person is better.

Petrona: Your favorite quote.

Felipe: Rock and roll culture inspires me, and the do it yourself punk philosophy is also part of my values. That’s why I find myself in this quote from rebellious designer Christian Benner.

Don’t let society tell you who to be …. Individuality is the most attractive virtue
